Ava begins to get really worry about Bradin's relationship with his wild girlfriend Sarah when they get caught by the police for swimming near the pier at night. Bradin begins to think about breaking up with her, but he finds it harder to do than he thought it would be. Erika is caught off guard when a former boyfriend shows up, which is pretty obvious, as Nikki observes while talking to her. Meanwhile, Derrick misinterprets a friendly embrace between Susannah and Johnny on a camping trip.
Skipping School
Ava begins to thinks that it might be in Nikki's best interest to skip her last year of junior high and go straight to high school, but Nikki does not think that it is in her best interest. Sarah invites Bradin to run away with her to Mexico, but he soon discovers that she's actually attempting to get out of going away to a strict boarding school. Also Erika's estranged mother shows up unannounced and attempts to get Erika to leave Jay and Playa Linda to come home to live with her.

After months of being gone Johnny returns home he is shocked to learn that Ava asks Simon to marry her. Nikki becomes very upset that Ava has asked Simon to marry her since feels Ava is meant Johnny. On the other hand Derrick very excited at the new because his family will now complete. When Bradin's coach questions his effort on the surf team, he considers trying performance-enhancing drugs to help him be better.

Three FBI agents come in and they are looking for Susannah and everything Dubois International related. Bradin is suspended from the school surf team. Bradin goes to the hospital.

At School Derrick talks with his school friends about a father/son sailing race.Were all of his friends will compete with their dads, but he will be with Ava. Two of his friends say Derrick can't compete with Ava which makes Derrick very upset and he begings to fight with them, all boys end in the principal's office.the temp secretary calls Susannah, Johnny, Jay, Ava, and Simon to pick Derrick up. Derrick tells Ava he doesn't want to race with her as she's not a father.Nikki becomes frustrated with Cameron and the school elections.
Mr. & Mrs. Who
Derrick is at the hospital where Johnny and Ava are waiting to get news on how he is doing. Johnny is Upset at Mona for having gone to get her hair done instead of showing up at the restaurant to let the in painters so that they can do their job. Mona's soon to be ex-husband comes to town to sign the divorce papers.
The Pleiades
Johnny and Mona agree that it is not the right time to start a relationship.Bradin,Callie,Lucas and his girlfriend and another couple are on the beach around a fire.Lucas congratulates Bradin on his surfing moves that day.The couples begin to make out accept Bradin and Callie,which makes for a very awkward moment for them

Ava, Susannah, and Colby discuss hiring a popstar to help them With there clotheing line.Bradin asks Lucas if he talked to Callie as he seems to think that there may be something going on between Callie and Lucas.
Leaving Playa Linda
Nikki has a crush on a new boy named Jeb,who works on the school's Lit magazine along with Nikki and Cameron. Bradin has an offer to go away for a month to perfect his surfing skills, but Ava does not approve because it will take him away from school. Jay thinks it will do him good. Lucas asks Bradin if they can still be friends (Callie aside). Derrick goes to Mona's apartment to try and find Johnny, as they have batting cage practice. When a group of older surfers convince Bradin to make his own decisions, he rejects Jay's parental opinions and humiliates Erika in the process. Meanwhile, when Nikki's poem is chosen for publication and she is asked to read in front of an audience, Amber offers Nikki alcohol to steady her nerves. After learning of Bradin and Nikki's troubles, Ava returns home from her European business trip.

Nikki and Cameron end up in the police station when Cameron's dad is taken in for a potential DUI. Nikki then discovers that Cameron may be living in an abusive household, and that his dad may be an alcoholic. Meanwhile, Bradin goes on a date with his friend's sister Faith , Jay pursues a single mother and Ava asks Johnny to move back into the house.

When Bradin saves his friend from drowning, he begins to contemplate a career in medicine rather than in surfing. Derrick, who is jealous over the attention Jay is giving his new girlfriend's son , lands in trouble after going to great lengths to impress the boy.
What's Past is Prologue
Nikki surreptitiously acts as a matchmaker to Ava and Johnny , but Johnny has his reservations about getting back into a relationship. Bradin becomes so upset that he considers quitting surfing altogether after his sponsors intentionally give him a bad-boy image. Feelings are confronted when Bradin and Erika discuss the possibility of a relationship, and Johnny finally makes a decision when Ava lays all her cards on the table and admits she still loves him.
