Pilot (1)

At an altitude of 190 statute miles above Earth, Mission Specialist, Neil Taggart of the Odyssey 5 crew has just completed a routine but delicate translation maneuver with an orbiting satellite. Sarah Forbes the CNT news anchor has also just concluded the first live broadcast from space, an interview with science crewmember, Dr. Kurt Mendel. Suddenly, all the feeds display static and there is a brilliant flash of light, Mission Commander, Chuck Taggart instantly commands all his crew into their compartments. As Mission Pilot, Angela Perry buckles into her seat, she sees a searing flare, then a swirling maelstrom that surrounds the Earth, spinning faster and faster until the Earth implodes and then explodes. An ear-shattering blast and shock wave slams the Odyssey 5 and Angela the only witness to the Earth's destruction is hurled into the control panel. The crew battles one emergency situation after the other. Finally the Odyssey 5 is stable, the silence of space returns. Mission Specialist, Matt Walsh is dead, Angela has suffered a severe concussion and the remaining crew realizes that the Earth is nowhere in sight - they are left with nine hours of oxygen and a minimal chance of survival. As the oxygen supply is depleted, they each drift off to sleep. The battered and scorched orbiter is now resting in a featureless expanse and the crew begins to awaken - they have been rescued by a mysterious alien being known as The Seeker. The Seeker reveals to the crew, that countless advanced civilizations throughout the galaxy have met the same fate as the Earth. The Odyssey astronauts are the only survivors The Seeker has ever encountered. He divulges that there is still a chance to save the Earth. Utilizing the vast technology at his disposal, The Seeker projects the astronauts into the past with their knowledge of future events. The crew of the Odyssey must now relive the five years leading up to the Earth's destruction, determine who or what destroyed the world and stop it from happening. Five years earlier, Chuck Taggart suddenly awakens in bed beside his wife Page, Neil Taggart is sprawled out on a floor of a high-school party, quickly they find their bearings and contact each other. Sarah bolts upright in the bed she shared with her first husband Paul and runs to the bedroom of the their child, Corey that they had lost to cancer. As Chuck Taggart sets out to pick up Neil, Kurt Mendel appears at his door. He informs Chuck that Angela is caught in a decaying orbit miles above the Earth's surface, immediately they set out to Missions Operations where Taggart commands Angela safely back to Earth. Over the next few days, Chuck Taggart contacts each Odyssey 5 crewmember and at their first group meeting, he informs them of a NADCOM orbital physics experiment satellite deployed through the agency's Special Projects Division named "bright sky". He also reveals, before the oxygen supply was depleted on the Odyssey 5, he found a ground-to-air transmission seconds before the Earth exploded, to a satellite with the code word: Leviathan. A few days later, Taggart approaches his close friend and NASA flight director, Ed Scrivens to search for information about "bright sky".

Pilot (2)

The Odyssey 5 crew tries to re-establish the patterns of their lives. Sarah returns to her position at KNBS, a local TV station but takes extreme precautionary measures to ensure her child is in good health. Mendel decides to live his life to the fullest and on the edge, he breaks up with his fiancée, cashes in his investments and decides to bet on a football game but quickly discovers that the past is not repeating - he loses the bet. Late one night, while Gerald Wilkinson is observing bio-chemical specimens in his home lab, he receives a telephone call - a quasi-mechanical, low pitched buzzing drone - he hangs up and proceeds to leave the house. When his wife Elaine (Maria Vacratsis) tries to stop him, he pushes her back with surprising force. Not much later, Gerald Wilkinson purposely collides his car, head on into Ed Scrivens' car who is on his way home from work. At the solemn tableau of gravestones after Ed Scrivens funeral, the Odyssey 5 crewmembers discuss their situation. Taggart informs them, that just before his death; Ed had discovered information about "bright sky". The crew begins to investigate the death of Gerald Wilkinson. They conclude that all the evidence points to a gene therapy program and a possible computer virus. They decide to investigate the warehouse where the gene therapy patients have been meeting. At the warehouse, the crew discovers an immaculate storage area. Chuck probes the fluid in the tank with a pipe to discover and awaken an organism with appendages. Unknowingly he has set off its destruction, the group of gene therapy patients arrive, some try desperately to save the being in the tank while others pursue the crew. As Chuck, Mendel and Angela run from the warehouse, Neil and Sarah appear with the rescue car just in time. A few days later, the crewmembers meet at a diner. Chuck informs them that the warehouse has just been rented out to a boating supply firm. They surmise that the gene experiments will begin again at another location, discuss the delicate balance of future events and their continued search for the cause of Earth's destruction. Meanwhile in another city, a university graduate student manipulates a digital organism within a fully contained virtual landscape - suddenly one of the digital organisms sprouts appendages and repeatedly continues to attack and absorb other organisms - the computer screens read: Leviathan Version 4.3

The Shatterer

The Odyssey 5 team tries to locate Professor Naran Chandra, an artificial life researcher who in the original timeline will commit suicide at a lecture 8 days from now, right in front of Kurt. Examining the files on Chandra's computer, they find that Chandra discovered a computer lifeform loose on the Internet that apparently evolved on its own from experiments in Chandra's lab and has now become "Sentient". Meanwhile, noting how mature and responsible his behavior has suddenly become, Neil's girlfriend Holly talks about taking their relationship to the next level. Sarah and Angela's investigation of the patients given "gene therapy" by Dr. Barantz leads them to discover some living tissue that appears to have been bio-manufactured in a chemical vat. Then, when they finally meet the frightened Dr. Chandra, the team discovers that one of his students is actually an inhuman creature made from this same nearly-indestructible tissue.

Astronaut Dreams

NASA's Project Bright-Sky is accelerated due to Ed Scriven's death and, knowing that a next-generation version of the Bright Sky satellite is what Odyssey 5 was launching on the day Earth was destroyed, Taggart determines that he must put his career on the line to sabotage the deployment of the current version. Neil realizes he's falling in love again with his old high school girlfriend, Holly. Sarah and Angela use their knowledge of the future to try to stop the kidnapping and murder of a young girl, which was front-page news in the original timeline, only to find that their actions have changed the future unpredictably. Mendel, determining that an organism comprised of the mysterious artificial tissue would be cold-blooded, assembles a thermal imaging system that will distinguish humans from the "Synthetics".

Time Out of Mind

In his continuing unsuccessful quest to make a huge amount of money from his knowledge of the future, Kurt marries a young woman who is destined to be a big star in the music world 5 years hence, but whose music is currently unpopular. Then, one by one, the Odyssey 5 members start losing their future memories. In desperation, Taggart and Mendel consult a theoretical physicist who is lecturing at a local science fiction convention, pretending that they need help with the science in a time-travel novel they are working on. But all they are able to determine is that each victim has the urge to type a bunch of weird symbols on a computer screen just before losing their memories of the next 5 years. Finally, Mendel is the lone survivor. As if stuggling with his new marriage wasn't trouble enough, if his memory goes before he can figure out what is going on, there will be no one left to save the earth from ultimate destruction.

Symbiosis

When a top prosthetics researcher is found dead, Neil receives an anonymous e-mail telling him that the man was murdered by the "Synthetics" whose existence the Odyssey 5 group has discovered, which it says are the physical manifestations of Dr. Chandra's "Sentients". It claims that they are now after the researcher's six-year-old niece Stevie, all because of a "cybiotic interface" he was working on which would allow computer technology to control organic systems. Visitng Stevie's teacher, they find out that she is deaf and received a cochlear implant, which her uncle had been tinkering with. Eventually, the team locates Stevie and finds out that her implant allows her brain to control a swarm of insects that have been fitted with cybiotic interface chips. But mysterious figures who may be Synthetics have relentlessly tracked Stevie to Kurt's place.

Rapture

Neil's friends at school are taking a new drug called "Rapture", which appears to boost their intelligence and may even promote telepathy and telekinesis. Neil finds out that his friend Deckard got the formula for the drug from a web site, but in his attempt to get a sample for analysis he is forced to take the drug. Meanwhile, Taggart's new boss Cynthia Hodge suggests that he had something to do with sabotaging the last space mission, but appears to be happy that the mission failure has hastened the day when manned space flights will be replaced by totally robotic ones. A retired astronaut, Leyton Scott, tells Taggart that a group called "the Cadre" have been trying for the last 20 years to get rid of manned space flight. But then Leyton reveals that he is dying from "Moon Sickness", a strange disease that strikes only Apollo astronauts, which may have something to do with their having brought more than just rocks back with them from the Moon. Because of Angela's apparent mental breakdown on her last mission, she is scheduled for a psych review. Although the doctor, who appears to be another member of "the Cadre", is suspicious of her attempt to make him think she just suffered a simple case of post-traumatic stress, she is approved to resume spaceflights. Mendel takes a sample of Neil's blood and analyzes the drug, a completely new compound which may enhance ESP but whose molecular structure causes addiction after a single dose. He also finds out that it can trigger a massive cardiovascular failure. Mendel and Taggart rush to save Neil's friends, who are now lying comatose in a barn under the control of Deckard, who is using their brains to enhance his own mental power.
